Hoo-o-o’s Birthday

Complete set
Complete set

Mary is going to a birthday party and we were at a loss as to what to give as a gift, when I mentioned an art bag Mary got very excited so here is what I created. I found this great fabric with owls. The pattern is bright green and pink very girly. I made a bag with outside pockets for color pencils and then I altered a composition book with scrapbook paper and a larger version of the same owl for a journal. Once I got started on this I could not seem to stop. I fabric appliqued the larger owl onto a felt pocket and we inserted watercolors, then I made a sleeve with the print fabric on the outside and bright pink on the inside to slide over a sketch pad and as a finishing touch I made a crayon holder. I have had so much fun making this I sure hope Joelle enjoys it.

Bean Bags – Craft Hope

Bean Bag Beginnings
Bean Bag Beginnings

I found this blog a few weeks ago http://crafthope.com ,Craft Hope is a faith-based, love inspired project designed to share handmade crafts with those less fortunate. They have just begun a new project for bean bags and I have signed on to make a set of numbers 0-9, a set of shapes and a set of colors.I will probably make a few of extra sets for Christmas gifts and the Headstart Marc and Mary attended. This is going to give me a chance to use up the jean pieces I have left from mary’s party as well as some of the small scraps of fabric I have wish me luck? If you are interested in joining the fun let me know or go to the link above.

Foam Swords

Foam Noodle Swords

Foam Noodle Swords

Call me crazy but I made swords with pools noodles today for the kids and their friends. We have had minimum days all week due to parent conferences and I have been trying to keep the kids busy for the extra three hours they have at home. The weather has been wonderful so I wanted to get them outside as much as possible after homework was complete so I made these swords using pool noodles, PVC pipe and Felt handles. I already had the PVC and felt at home from a previous projects so all I had to pick up was three noodles and the PVC end caps I made six swords for $7 and 20 minutes, the kids played outside for just about an hour with no one complaining about being hurt. That makes a pretty good day in my book.

Quite Book – Busy Book

First two Pages

First two Pages

I have just started on Edward’s birthday present, I hope no one tells him. I am making him a Quite Book also called a Busy Book. I have read several blogs about these books and seen some great ideas, I think I will put several of these ideas together and add a couple of pages of my own.  I am using the principle I saw on one blog that each page should teach something. I have just completed my first two pages. The first page has a street light and the color velcro on teaching color matching and the meaning of the street light colors. The second page is a pot of flowers, the felt flowers button on to coordinating color buttons teaching both color matching and buttoning.  I am hoping that if I start now I will have it completed in time. If anyone has any suggestions for pages to add to this book I would love to hear them.

And the race is on!

I am thankful that I have a boy and girl along with many nieces and nephews, this allows me the opportunity to create adorable crafts for any gender. I saw something similar to this on another blog this week and expanded the idea to include an oval track for racing on and handles. The completed car caddy hold 5 matchbox type cars and folds down to about 4″ square for easy carrying. This would be great for the boy on the go. It can be used at restaurants or while waiting for an appointment.
