Fleece Hats for the Holidays

Adorable Niece in Owl HatIMG_2169

This was made for a Christmas gift last year, I had a niece who requested a fleece owl hat so I purchased a pattern from Youcanmakethis.com

and set off making hats, I was not sure which color she would like best so I gave her both and she loved them equally. She was wearing one when I saw her on Christmas day. This pattern was so easy to make and the fleece is super simpe to work with. After making the owls I found altering the pattern to make other animals quite easy. I ending up making a few bears, a racoon, fox and cat.

Felt Happy Meal

Burgerfelt lunchBurger mealFelt Happy MealI have had so much fun making felt food over the last year and now I have decided it is time to get back to blogging so I will start with a Happy Meal I made for two little girls birthdays. I made one happy meal with a burger and the other with chicken nuggets. This was a very fun project and I did not use patterns for most of the items I just looked online at several tutorials and used their ideas for a reference. The french fries were by far the most time consuming part of the project. It is amazing how many fries fit into the tiny fry box. Along with the Happy meals I also made apple pies. Once I finished the food I went to my local Mc Donald’s and they generously gave me the fry and pie boxes. To complete this gift I included a gift card so each of the girls could enjoy a Happy Meal for lunch to go along with their felt toy. This project was so much fun it has sent me a little crazy with felt food creations. I will post more soon.

Pirate Birthday Gift

My twins were invited to a birthday party of a friend recently and since I have challenged myself to create gifts as much as possible rather than purchase them I set out to make a travel bag and an I spy bags for the birthday boy, he was turning 8.

I am pretty happy with the way everything turned out and the birthday boy was very excited. We all had fun playing with the I Spy bag, I will be making more soon.

I am once again joining Craft Hope to reach out to others http://crafthope.com/2011/04/project-12-orphan-outreach/. This project is making bracelets for orphans in Russia.

How easy is it to make a bracelet? I had some visitors over and put them to work helping out. We made these with the many beads I have, hopefully we will be able to make several more before these get mailed. I am even looking at other types to make.

You can join in as well.

Coraline Gifts

I help a young man organize and decorate for his 11th birthday. He loves Coraline and chose the movie as the base for his party. Along with the decorations which I will post later I made a few gifts for him.

I made him a small messenger tote with images from the movie printed on it. I found the images online and printed them on fabric from JoAnn’s that you can run through your printer (http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?pageName=search&flag=true&PRODID=prd1024 ). I than used this fabric and sew it on the bag as pockets, I even made a small pocket for this electronics.

Along with the bag I made him two notes books, one was a composition book and the other a smaller note-book. Once again I found images online and this time I printed the on cardstock and used them along with coordinating scrapbook paper to create the notebooks. I was very pleased with how the gifts came out. I added an aluminum water bottle in Coraline blue to the bag to complete the gift.

Blue Green Bridal Shower

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I am thrilled to be helping with my sisters Bridal Shower. Her Maid of Honor called me and asked if I would help her out and I am jumping for joy, another party to help with. The colors for the wedding are blue and green with an accent color and the shower will have a shabby chic feel. I found this wonderful blue and green flowered calico that I have been using on all of the items I have crafted to tie things together.

Bridal Shower Pennant

Bridal Shower Pennant

The fabric is on the top of the invitations, some of the pennants in the banner and covering the clothes pins. I have gathered together solid fabric to cover the tables and I will use the flower print as a runner on all of the tables. I have also gathered together pieces of jadeite and milkglass for serving pieces. The jadeite is a perfect shade of green.

Name corsages

Name corsages

The shower will be rather large and many of the ladies will not me acquainted with all of the Bridal Party so I recently I created flower corsages for the ladies in the wedding party and the Mother of the Bride, along with the corsages I have made a yard sign to notified guests that they have arrived. I am very excited with how things are coming together and I still have enough time to crafts a few more items for decorations. With two weeks to go I am hoping to complete cupcake toppers and a cupcake stand before the big day.

Cupcake Toppers

Cupcake Toppers

I created the cupcake stand and toppers by copying the key fabric onto card stock and then using it along with complimentary card stock. The cupcake stand was made following this tutorial http://createstudio.blogspot.com/2011/03/cupcake-stand-tutorial.html. Just a note if you are going to make this stand the bottom can need to be 28-30 ounce (such as tomatoes) and all of the cans used need to be full, this adds weight stability to you to the stand. This stand worked great because I could customize it and it required no storage, the cans just went back into the pantry when the party was over.

Later this week I will post a tutorial on cover paint cans I used for my gifts.

Valentine’s Day Crafts

As most of you know things are tight financially around my house, time seems to be the one resource I have extra. I have been thinking about a way to make Valentine’s Day special without spending money. I made a pennant banner for the kid’s birthday and found it very addictive so I have made another one for Valentine’s Day and along with the banner I made felt envelopes that attached to our chairs at the table. Each person will write a note to all of the family members about things the love in each other from now until Valentine’s Day and on Valentine”s Day we will get to read all of the notes. I think this along with a nice dinner should make the day very special. Maybe I will even attempt to make felt roses for the table.

I love being able to search online for ideas, one of my favorite sites recently is http://www.oneprettything.com/

Movie Night Party – A 2 Thumbs Up Hit

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Marc and Mary’s Movie Night was a complete success both on the budget and the fun that was had.I had a great time spending the week making decorations using many of the things I had on hand. Each child was told to arrive with their ticket(invitation) which was than traded for 4 one dollar bills (play money) to be used when buying movie treats. After dinner of hot dogs, chips, fruit,  veggie and punch a drawing wa held. The movie tickets were entered into a drawing in which each child one a chance to pick a prize from our prize box.

After the prizes were selected the children lined up for a turn at the concession stand where they were given to opportunity to buy treats, all treats were a $1 a piece allowing each child to select 4. The concession stand offered soda, popcorn, and snack size candies. Once the snacks were purchased everyone sat down to watch the animated movie ” Alpha and Omega” after the movie we had the cake. Presents were opened and each child was sent home with a bag of chocolate covered popcorn.

Both Marc and Mary have said this was their best birthday ever. I think it was so successful because they were very involved in the set up and only close friends were at the party. In the past we have had larger groups of guests inviting their classmates not all of who relate well.

Tissue Paper for flowers – $2

Trays for concession stand 4/$1

Paper plates, napkins and cups -$4

Copies for tickets, money and labels – $4

Fiber optic lights – free ( left over from a previous party)

Film Strip picture frames – free (used frames we already had)

Fabric Banner – free (made from fabric and ribbon on hand)

Movie – Free ( part of our $7.99 Netflix membership)

Total Cost without food = $11

experience to last a lifetime = priceless

More Movie Night Projects

With just a day left before the party, I am finishing up decorations and activities. I have made a banner, the kids asked that I put “Movie Night” on it rather than Happy Birthday so we could have more movie nights in the coming months. I have made a sign to turn my kitchen doorway into a concession stand, and I have printed out play money and a wolf coloring page and maze to go with the movie “Alpha and Omega”.

I am happy with how easily this is going together I think I have spent way to much time planning in the past, or maybe all of my experience is paying off and I am getting quicker with the ideas.
